Overview
- 1. Non-Immigrant Visa Category “O-A” (long stay/retirement)
Purpose of Visit: This type of visa may be issued to applicants aged 50 years and above who wish to stay in Thailand for a period of not exceeding 1 year without the intention of working. Holder of this type of visa is allowed to stay in Thailand for 1 year. Employment of any kind is strictly prohibited.
PPlease note that Non-Immigrant Visa-O-A (Long Stay/Retirement) will only be granted by the Royal Thai Embassy, Pretoria, to South African and Accredited Countries’ Permanent Residents.
-Eligibility
1. Applicant must be aged 50 years and over (on the date of submitting application)
2. Applicant is not prohibited from entering the Kingdom as provided by the Immigration Act B.E. 2522 (1979)
3. Applicant does not have a criminal record in Thailand and the country of the applicant’s nationality or residence
4. Applicant must have a nationality of or residence in the country where the visa application is submitted
5. Applicant does not have prohibitive diseases (Leprosy, Tuberculosis, drug addiction, Elephantiasis, third phase of Syphilis) as indicated in the Ministerial Regulation No. 14 B.E. 2535
- 2. Visa Application for Non-immigrant O-A
2.1 Visa Application form(s) and photograph(s):two signed and completed Visa Application Forms dated at least 10 working days before the intended date of travel (https://image.mfa.go.th/mfa/0/3Vsp0C7LTs/-_form_Application_visa.pdf), as well as two recent photograph(s) (size 2x2 inch).
2.2 Required documents for visa application
- 2.2.1 A passport valid for no less than one year and half to be submitted with a copy of passport.
- 2.2.2 Summary of the applicant’s personal data (CV/Resume)
- 2.2.3 A letter from the bank verifying the amount of deposit in the bank account of no less than 800,000 Baht (or equivalent).
- 2.2.4 An Original Police Clearance Certificate or Letter of verification stating that the applicant has no criminal record issued from the country of his/her nationality or residence. Such verification must be valid for no more than 3 months.
- 2.2.5 A medical certificate showing no prohibitive diseases as indicated in the Ministerial Regulation No.14(B.E. 2535) certificate shall be valid for not more than three months.
- 2.2.6 Additional health insurance requirement for Non-Immigrant O-A
Effective from 31 October 2019, the applicant must be medically insured for the entire period of stay in Thailand with the following coverage:
- - Outpatient benefit with a sum insured of not less than 40,000 THB, and
- - Inpatient benefit with a sum insured of not less than 400,000 THB The applicants must submit the following:
Health insurance policy document issued by a Thai or foreign insurance company, stating that the applicant is medically insured for the period of at least 1 year and with coverage as mentioned above:
- (a) In case of a foreign insurance company, the applicant must submit the original insurance policy document with 2 copies;
- (b) In case of a Thai insurance company, the applicant must submit 2 copies of the insurance policy document or, if available, the original insurance policy document with 2 copies. A list of Thai insurance companies participating in the scheme can be found here: http://longstay.tgia.org
- 2.2.7 Visa Application Fee (not include visa processing company’s fee) : Multiple-Entry Visa: ZAR3,000
Foreign Insurance Certificate as stipulated by the Office of Insurance Commission and Health Insurance of Thailand, which must be completed, signed and stamped by the insurance company. The form can be downloaded here: Form
- 2.3 A copy of a flight ticket.
Dependents of holders of O-A
(Dependents of holders of O-A are currently not able to enter Thailand)
In the case that the applicant wishes to have his/her spouse stay together in the Kingdom but the spouse is not qualified for the O-A code visa on his or her own, the spouse may be eligible to apply for Single-Entry Non-Immigrant O-visa.
Documents Requirement
- the same required documents as for Non-Immigrant O-A-visa
- plus marriage certificate (Document issued by Non-Thai Authorities MUST be certified by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of those countries prior to submission).
- A copy of bank statement has to show the amount of another 800,000 Baht (or equivalent) in addition to the applicant’s initial amount).
** Consular officer reserves the rights to ask for additional documents as deemed necessary**
Recommendations for the Alien While Staying in the Kingdom:
- 1. When completing the say of 90 days in the Kingdom, the alien shall report to the competent authority and report it every 90 days with the immigration officer in the alien’s residence area, or report to the police station in the alien’s residence if there is no immigration control there.
- 2. At the end of the one-year stay, the alien who wishes to extend his/her stay shall submit a request for the extended period at the Immigration Bureau with documented evidence of money transfer, or a deposit account in the Kingdom, or an income certificate plus a deposit account at the total amount of no less than 800,000 Baht a year.
- 3. If the alien’s spouse wishes to extend his/her stay as well, the marriage certificate shall be produced.

- 2. Passport (valid for no less than 6 months) and a copy of the Passport
- 3. Copy of ID Document other than Passport (for example ID Card or Driver License)
- 4. Copy of Permanent Residence or other permit (if not a national of the country of residence)
- 5. Proof of Relationship
- * Copy of Marriage Certificate, Passport and Identity Card of the Applicant’s spouse
(Copies of documents must be signed by Spouse)
For accompanying foreign spouse who works in Thailand, spouse’s proof of employment in Thailand is also required. - * Copy of Birth Certificate, Passport and Identity Card of the Applicant’s children
For accompanying foreign parents who works in Thailand, parent’s proof of employment in Thailand is also required.
For accompanying foreign children who studies in Thailand, proof of enrolment in Thai schools is also required. - ** Document issued by Non-Thai authorities must be certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of those countries prior to submission)
- 6. Evidence of adequate finance - An original bank statement which states bank contact information and deposit with the equivalent amount of At least 400,000 Baht or equivalent) for the last 3 months.
- 7. A copy of flight ticket(s).
- 8. Copy of Yellow fever vaccination card – for applicants from or have travelled to yellow fever
infected areas.

- 9. Visa Application Fee (not include visa processing company’s fee) : Single-Entry Visa: ZAR1,200
- 10. Other documents: as may be requested by Consular officers in addition to the documents above. Please note that Consular officers reserve the right to require additional documents, or an interview, as deemed necessary, without prior notice. The Royal Thai Embassy reserves the right not to accept any visa application whereby any required document is absent. If the above procedures are not completed, the official will not proceed with your application.
In order to report to the competent authority by mail, the alien shall do as follows:
The Report Form (referred to in Thai as Tor Mor 47) together with a copy of the passport pages showing the alien’s photograph, personal details, and the latest arrival visa stamp as well as a selfaddressed envelope with postage affixed, shall be forwarded, by 7 days before the due date, by acknowledgement of receipt mail to the Immigration Bureau, Sathon Tai Road, Sathon District, Bangkok 10120.
In the case of conducting any following reports, the Reply Form for the previous Report shall be enclosed as well.)

**The Royal Thai Embassy reserves the right to reject any visa application with insufficient documents or if the reasons given are not fully supported. The visa fee is non-refundable**
All documents: Documents in languages other than Thai or English have to be translated into either Thai or English and notarised by notary organs or relevant diplomatic/consular missions.
